Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against Honda for Odyssey Shifting Issues with ZF 9HP

According to CarComplaints.com, transmission problems with certain Honda Odyssey minivans have led to a class-action lawsuit. The 9-speed ZF 9HP automatic transmissions used in the 2018-2019 Odyssey allegedly suffer from delayed shifting, loud noises while shifting, rough shifting, rough acceleration/deceleration, and sudden power loss.

The plaintiffs say the ZF 9-speed was used by Honda to improve gas mileage of the minivan, but the lawsuit alleges any improved fuel economy came at the expense of transmission problems.

Honda has issued multiple technical service bulletins (TSBs) to dealers concerning the ZF 9HP transmission problems, the lawsuit claims.

The plaintiffs also say that Honda created a customer service campaign to handle problems with the transmissions, but the minivans continue to experience problems with the 9HP.

So far, Honda has not extended the warranties or recalled the Odysseys despite these known issues.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently submitted support to the U.S. Copyright Office for MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers’ petition for a new exemption to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA)’s anti-circumvention provisions. These provisions prohibit bypassing copyright protection systems. MEMA’s proposed exemption would allow consumers to view their vehicle’s telematics data and share that data with third-party repairers. The DOJ and FTC agreed with MEMA that providing consumers access to their vehicle’s telematics data would pose a minimal threat to copyright holders. They also agreed that this data could be accessed without increasing cybersecurity risks.
