Complaint:
A 2013 Dodge Ram equipped with the 5.7 Liter Engine and 65RFE transmission has a complaint of falling out of sixth and fifth gear intermittently.
Once this occurs, the transmission will not receive a command to shift into fifth or sixth gear. No trouble codes are stored, however, the scan tool indicated the downshifts out of sixth and fifth gears were commanded.
The only oddity was when coming to a stop, the brake pedal would pulse as if the ABS system was activated.
Cause:
Scan tool data revealed that the right front wheel speed sensor would drop to zero below 5-10 mph while the other wheel speed sensors appeared to be functioning correctly. As a result of this action the right front wheel speed sensor, refer to figure 1, seemed to be the cause of the complaint.
Correction:
Replacement of the right front wheel speed sensor eliminated the complaint and the truck shifted through all six gears with no further problems.
