ALI expands manual, offers digital edition

The Automotive Lift Institute (ALI) has updated and expanded its car lift safety manual “Lifting It Right.” The new second edition of the training tool features new information, photos and illustrations. Additionally, for the first time, a digital version is also available.

“Lifting It Right” is a guide to the safe operation and basic maintenance of the seven types of vehicle lifts commonly used in North America: inground lifts, two-post lifts, multi-post runway lifts, parallelogram lifts, scissors lifts, low-/mid-rise lifts and mobile columns. It is a companion to and reinforces the safe lifting practices presented in ALI’s Lifting It Right online course, the organization says.

Working with lift manufacturers, the ALI team expanded the manual to provide the latest guidance on lift safety best practices. ALI experts wrote new content including a glossary, as well as information on lift capacity, lift inspection, load-holding devices, swing arm restraints and being a safe lift operator.

The new digital edition has the same content as the print version, but available on computers, phones and tablets.

“Lifting It Right” is available from ALI member manufacturers and ALI Certified Lift Inspectors, as well as through the ALI store and ALI’s Amazon store. Quantity discounts are available for the print version, as well as options for bundling the print and digital manual together or with the purchase of single or subscription access to ALI’s Lifting It Right online lift safety training course.

Hey, you know who else has a digital edition? Transmission Digest, that’s who. Find the latest one here.

It could be argued that modern alignment equipment has seen some of the most enjoyable advancements over any other automotive equipment in recent years. It has become so technician-friendly that many shops are providing no more than a five-minute crash course to new technicians coming in.This makes it easy for seasoned technicians who are familiar with alignment theory, since any learning curve on new equipment is virtually eliminated. It also makes it easy for new technicians or those without alignment experience because the new equipment basically walks you through the entire alignment process. The downside? Without core knowledge of alignment geometry and how it affects vehicle handling, you may not be able to properly diagnose steering-related issues or recognize them and tie them in with alignment readings.
