Is it a Bad Computer?
A 6T40 in a 2011 Chevy Malibu comes in to R.C. Trans and Repair in failsafe with a hard code P0601: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Read Only Memory (ROM). This code is straightforward. Verifying power and grounds to the TECHM are the initial checks to make. Once verified, replacing the computer would be a safe repair. Such was the case with R.C. Trans and Repair.
Updated 6L80/90 Output Shaft Assembly
During model year 2012, Chevrolet and GMC trucks equipped with the 6L80/90 transmission received an updated output-shaft assembly. The previous output-shaft assembly was comprised of a separate output shaft, output carrier ring gear, ring-gear spacer, output carrier internal front gear and snap rings as seen on the left in figures 1 through 3. This required the use of a specific style output transmission speed sensor also shown on the left in figures 4 and 5.
Location and Function of New #8 Checkball for 6L80/90
The 6L80/90 transmission is showing up in shops much more frequently than in the past, as vehicles equipped with this unit get older. Believe it or not, the 6L80 is already 10 years old! As time flies by and we get familiar with rebuilding a specific transmission, we store in our memory more and more details of the disassembly and reassembly of specific items — such as the pump, input drum and valve body — to the point where it becomes second nature. This particular transmission is a pretty easy build. After their third overhaul, most builders would tear down the internal components and dump everything into a basket, run it all through the parts washer and start rebuilding and reassembling after the parts are cleaned.

2010 Escalade Noise: What’s the rattle under the hood?
A 2010 Cadillac Escalade equipped with a 6.2L engine and 6L80 transmission arrived with a somewhat erratic rattle noise from under the hood. At first glance (or sound, actually), there was not a particular condition that would trigger the noise. And noises being what they are, this made for a tough diagnosis.
