Ford 8F24 mechanical diode failure

Mechanical diode failure in automatic transmissions is not uncommon. As far back as the AODE/4R70 shops have seen this type of failure. In April 2022 an article was published in Transmission Digest called, “The ins and outs of the Hydraulic Selectable One-Way Clutch (SOWC).” This article provided photos of the type of damage this style

Manual clutch repair and diagnostics

Manual gearboxes are relatively trouble-free and long-lived, provided that they are not abused too severely. The clutch, however, is a wear component. With every shift, the clutch must be disengaged and engaged. Stop-and-go driving in heavy traffic is especially hard on a clutch because the driver is always riding the clutch pedal. After millions of

The evolution of diesel transmission maintenance

It’s no longer a secret… heck, it’s no longer that special for a diesel engine to make 1,000-plus horsepower. It’s become commonplace, and due to that increased capability, it seems that these days, OE manufacturers are rating transmissions at their absolute limits. As soon as you add a little more horsepower or work your truck
