To eliminate torsional vibration or NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) vehicles have always utilized motor and transmission mounts. Initially, the mounts were merely a hard rubber however, with the release of smaller transverse-mounted applications softer rubber mounts were required. To further lessen vibrations hydraulic mounts were developed to increase fixed absorption capabilities.
More recently, mounts with variable capabilities have been developed such as a hydraulic mount with a vacuum control or a MR (magnetorheological fluid) mount. The MR mount contains an electrorheological fluid that solidifies with an electrical charge and is controlled by the computer. Use the proper mounts for each application.
