Gone are the days of easy profits in the transmission rebuilding industry. Cars of today are complex and more difficult and expensive to diagnose and repair. The quality of manufacture is the best it’s ever been; longer-lasting transmissions, longer factory warrantees and lease intrusion all mean less available work for the shop.
Sometime at the beginning of the 2004 model year, Subaru redesigned the 4AT Phase ll Control system that placed the transfer clutch control solenoid into the valve body. The new design valve body (referred to as Version II) contained 3 clutch control solenoids, 2 brake control solenoids, a TCC and pressure control solenoid (Figure 1).
“A few years ago, Tom Eibel and I visited with many of Rostra’s customers,” Rostra Powertrain Controls President Jeff McCurley said. “We heard repeatedly that they loved Rostra products but wished Rostra would develop and release more parts.”
Should a tourist visit Branson, Mo., as so many do, he would be remiss not to take a leisurely drive into the historic downtown area, enjoying the antique brick buildings and waving to the friendly locals. But, should his vehicle suddenly break down, or make unexplained noises, or experience other issues, where is our tourist to go in this unfamiliar town?
Accumulators and their circuits have been used for years as the primary method for controlling shift feel. These components are designed to modify a shift by essentially acting as a shock absorber for the fluid pressure that is applying a clutch, brake or band. Cushioning of this high pressure allows the apply component to engage gradually, instead of slamming on and rattling parts and bones alike.
Our name is on a lot of stuff: stickers, hats, shirts, lanyards and, of course, pens. It’s also on some pretty niche stuff: Klement’s beef snack sticks (“Nice to Meat You”), VIN decoding mouse pads, beer mugs, bobble heads – and we come up with new, interesting stuff to brand all the time, partly because our favorite customers, vendors, and even our own employees really like cool, new stuff. Who doesn’t?
A customer brought her 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser to our shop with a complaint of random high engine revs. She stated that restarting the engine resets the vehicle and it works again temporarily, and this had been going on for about four months. The vehicle had a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine with a 604 transmission.
I use the word integrity as opposed to honesty when talking about advertising because technically and legally an ad can be honest but at the same time can lack integrity if the offer is too difficult to understand, has too many hoops to jump through, only applies to a product in very short supply or one in which the offer has an end date that a consumer doesn’t have enough time to respond to.
