Ford vehicles from the 2004 model year up equipped with the 4F50N transaxle may exhibit a 1-2 slide bang before or after overhaul.

1999-and-up Ford vehicles equipped with the AX4S transaxle may exhibit a 1-2 neutral condition after overhaul.

Before or after overhaul, a BMW/Isuzu with the 4L30-E transmission exhibits soft or flared upshifts, slipping or gear-ratio-error codes.

A 2007 GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave, Pontiac G6, or Saturn Aura or Outlook equipped with a 6T70 transaxle may develop a problem illuminating the “Check Engine” lamp, with one or more codes present.

January 2009 Issue

Issue Summary:

A break or short in wiring or possible failure of the tow/haul mode switch can cause tow/haul mode to be inactive and may set code B2722.

Loss of AFL-valve pressure can result in a neutral condition either during or immediately after the shift to fourth gear in a 4L80-E.

A Saturn Vue with the AF33-5 transmission in limp mode with code P0717 set may have a faulty input-speed sensor.

In the 2004 model year, Chrysler redesigned the solenoid pack in the 45RFE to reduce operational noise by using internal solenoids.

Chrysler vehicles equipped with the 45RFE or 545RFE may exhibit a binding condition on the 3-4 or 4-5 upshift that may be accompanied by a pressure-switch code.

An Isuzu with a 4L30-E may go into failsafe, with solenoid codes stored, after a fluid-and-filter change.

After overhaul, an Isuzu or BMW vehicle with a 4L30-E may partially stall when the transmission is placed into gear or may exhibit discoloring and/or premature failure of the torque converter.

After overhaul, vehicles equipped with the Mercedes 722.6 transmission may exhibit multiple gear-ratio errors and/or limp mode.

1995-2005 Hyundais may exhibit complaints including a flare on the 2-3 shift, no lockup application, no fourth gear, 1-2 shift only and harsh garage shifts.

A Hyundai with the A4BF1 has the MIL on with no apparent drivability complaints and the transmission is not in limp mode, but codes P0743 and P0747 are stored.

A Toyota vehicle with a 540-H or 540-E transaxle may have no reverse, and no engine braking in Manual 2 or Manual 1.

Mitsubishi vehicles with R4A51/V4A51-series transmissions may exhibit poor shift quality or a flared 2-3 upshift after overhaul.

May 2008 Issue

Issue Summary:

A ZF 5HP24 may exhibit a slipping or delayed engagement into reverse and/or drive before and after overhaul and also may have a flared kickdown shift to 4th.

A V-8 BMW model with a 5HP24 may have a buzzing or droning noise coming from the area of the bellhousing.

A Subaru vehicle equipped with the 4EAT Phase II has multiple solenoid codes with erratic transmission operation, which is commanded by the TCM.

April 2008 Issue

Issue Summary:

In the 2000 model year, some Mitsubishi F4A40/50-series transaxles were equipped with newly designed plastic-body solenoids.

A Mitsubishi or Hyundai vehicle may arrive at your shop with code P1723 or Mitsubishi code 54, or in limp mode (3rd-gear starts) with no codes.

Before or after overhaul, a Mitsubishi or Hyundai vehicle may exhibit a shudder or slip while being driven in reverse.

Before or after overhaul, a Mitsubishi or Hyundai vehicle may go to neutral while taking off in 1st gear or while making a 2-1 downshift during a stop.

March 2008 Issue

Issue Summary:

After overhaul, a 5R55W transmission has delayed engagements on garage shifts and possibly a flared 2-3 shift.

Explorer and Mountaineer models equipped with the 5R55W/S may exhibit a ticking or rattling noise coming from the bellhousing.

After overhaul, vehicles equipped with the 5R55W/S may exhibit a metallic ticking noise coming from the bellhousing, similar to the sound of a cracked flex plate or flywheel.

Vehicles equipped with the 4R44E transmission may exhibit a flare on the 2-3 upshift before or after overhaul.

On 2000-and-up Ford vehicles equipped with AX4S, AX4N or 4F50N transmissions, filling the transmission with fluid may be difficult.

A 2004-and-up vehicle equipped with the 4F50N transaxle may exhibit no movement in either forward or reverse range.
